With his signature inflatable dinosaur toy forms taking center stage, artist Brett Kern's new solo exhibition deftly and joyously explores childhood fascinations, nostalgia and pop culture.
Referencing his ceramic slip-casting process, Kern says, "Objects are covered in a material that captures their shape and texture, preserving them as rock-like representations. Movies, television, toys and games dominated the cultural landscape of my youth. I am a product of this specific time period, and I like to think of my artwork as the fossils that will help preserve it.”
Included in the show will be several of Kern's rarely-made baby Maiasaura forms. First discovered in Montana, Maiasaura ("Good Mother Dinosaur") fossils were found among nests with eggs, embryos and young animals. This was the first evidence of a dinosaur feeding its young while they were still in the nest.
Please join us for the opening reception on Aug 25, 5-7pm. As always, everyone is welcome.
