Courtney Blazon's mixed media drawings reference fields of science, history, culture, mythology and fairy tales. Her images take us someplace between the known world and dreamscape, a surreal marriage of naturalism and fantasy. The results can be simultaneously whimsical and grotesque, witty and disturbing. The tension of these unions suggests our own struggle to achieve balance in a chaotic world.
Blazon is a graduate of the Parsons School of Design. She received the Montana Arts Council’s Artists Innovation Award in 2011. She has exhibited at the UC Gallery and the Brink Gallery in Missoula. Outside of Montana, her work has been exhibited in Seattle, Portland, and New York. Her art has been featured in New American Paintings (Western edition), Studio Visit Magazine, and on juxtapoz.com.
